Larger-bodied people and healthcare

As an occupational therapist, I’ve helped larger-bodied people in nursing homes, the hospital and community clean up their bottoms easier after going to the bathroom.

Why am I talking about bidets for larger bodies? Because I'm a healthcare professional who wants to make sure that all types of people have the resources they need to take care of themselves.

In healthcare, larger bodies tend to be left out of the conversation. And I want to make sure that all body types are included in butt health!

wiping problems for larger-bodied people

Sometimes larger body people feel like they can't reach well or wipe enough to feel thoroughly cleaned after using the toilet. The answer isn't to keep wiping until your booty’s raw!

Consider using a bidet as an alternative option to toilet paper so you can feel a shower fresh, clean.

Water is gentler and more effective at cleaning your bottom compared to toilet paper or wet wipes. Using water helps unwanted bacteria stay away from your urethra and it keeps your skin infection-free and irritation-free.

Bidet tips for larger-bodied people

Bidet seats, like the Alpha UX Pearl, have an adjustable nozzle for you to position the water where it needs to go.

You can choose the front wash or the rear wash and the water intensity to thoroughly clean your bottom.

There are a couple of important features to look for in a bidet seat for larger bodies: The first thing is to look for bidet seats with elongated seats, not round seats. Elongated seats will help give you extra wiggle room to clean your caboose.

Next, look for bidet seats with remote controls as opposed to side mounted controls. The seats with side mounted controls can be tricky because when you sit on the toilet, you might accidentally cover it up with your leg and your buttock.

The bidet seats with remotes help you avoid that problem completely because you can hold the remote in your hand and use the bidet controls.

Many bidet seats have preset user settings that allow you to set your preferred water nozzle, position, temperature, and intensity. With the push of one button, you'll be able to wash your bottom exactly as you wish.

Lastly, you'll want to get the most bang for your buck by checking the bidet seat weight capacity. Most bidet seats accommodate people up to 330 pounds. If you need something at a higher weight capacity, the BB-2000 Bliss bidets are made for users up to 450 pounds.

Toilet positioning tips for larger-bodied people

For larger-bodied people, it's important to be in the best possible position on the toilet to clean your keister.

Sit in the center of the toilet so the nozzle position sprays your bottom right every time.

Everyone's anatomy is a little bit different. My nozzle position may be in a different spot than the nozzle position you need for your use. That's why the user pre-settings are convenient if you're sharing the bidet with someone else.

After you tend to Nature's Call, I recommend sitting tall and gently pulling apart your butt cheeks so that the water can thoroughly clean your sensitive booty skin. Place your hips, knees and ankles, at 90 degree angles so you feel stable while getting washed up with the bidet.

toilet stools for larger-bodied people

Toilet stools are great for keeping those cheeks spread far apart. Propping both of your feet up on the stool tends to naturally keep you buttocks spread which makes it easier to wash your bottom thoroughly.

After finishing a bowel movement, stay in the same position with your feet propped on the stool to wash your bottom with the bidet.

If propping your feet up on a stool causes you discomfort in your back, hips or belly, then it’s time to make some changes. Either lower the height of your stool or discontinue using it. I know, it stinks when things don’t work out!

It's important to feel comfortable while using the toilet because it helps you poop easier when you relax. No need to suffer or struggle to get in a certain position when it doesn’t feel good to your body.

grab bars for larger-bodied people

Another option to help the water nasal spray clean you thoroughly is to place a grab bar next to the toilet. Hold onto the grab bar while leaning side to side and front to back. Once you're in the best position possible, get out that remote and clean your booty haul. For people with female anatomy, make sure to use the front wash before the rear wash so you can keep that unwanted bacteria away from your urethra.

Air dryer option for larger-bodied people

When you're finished spraying water on your bottom, stay seated and use the warm air dryer to dry your private parts. No leaning required!

The air dryer option is really nice for people who have a hard time reaching their bottom, feel pain, or who have chronic fatigue.

If you don’t have time to wait for the air dryer to completely dry your bottom, you could use a booty-only towel to pat dry your private parts. In my household, we prefer to use wash cloths for this purpose and then place it in the laundry. Yes, we do more laundry, butt it’s worth it!

It's very important to thoroughly dry your delicate booty skin to avoid other types of unwanted infections. Using a clean towel to help dry your booty is key to preventing infections, especially urinary tract infections.
