How Does a TUSHY Bidet Work?
Have you been researching bidet seats online? If so, I bet you’ve come across a TUSHY.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but the TUSHY bidet seat attachment marketing seems ubiquitous; they’re the Starbucks of the bidet seat industry. Everywhere I look I see TUSHY ads!
TUSHY bidets look really attractive with a chic, clean design. They look easy to use, and most importantly, easy to install.
They look almost too good to be true . . .
Are you wondering what it’s like to use a TUSHY bidet? Well, you’re in luck! Let me tell you about my experience over the past three years with my TUSHY bidet!

TUSHY Classic Features
I have a TUSHY Classic (version 1.0, thank you very much!) non-electric bidet attachment with a control that’s mounted on the right side of the toilet. The attachment goes right underneath the toilet seat. So this means you have to remove the toilet seat, place the attachment on, and then put the toilet seat back on top.
My TUSHY bidet has a knob that controls the water spray. If you turn the knob towards the right, it adjusts the water spray intensity from the nozzle. If you turn it towards the left, it will clean the water nozzle, which is helpful after poopsplosions!
The control has a toggle switch that allows you to adjust the position of the water nozzle. Push the toggle forward and it moves the nozzle towards the front of the toilet for a feminine wash. Push it backwards and the nozzle moves towards the back of the toilet as a rear wash.
Since I have female anatomy, I’m typically toggling the switch towards the front for a feminine wash. My husband and I adjust this toggle during every toilet visit every single day between the two of us. No, it’s not annoying to me to do this because it’s so simple to adjust.
The TUSHY is hooked up to the toilet water supply. This means that clean water will always wash my bottom. The water will also be the same temperature as the water in the toilet. During certain times of year, it may feel a little cooler or warmer due to the temperature changes outside. I’ve used it for so long though that I don’t mind using a cooler water temperature to clean my bottom.
When my husband and I initially installed the TUSHY bidet, it took some tinkering to make sure the attachment was in a good spot for both of us to use comfortably. The bidet has a bit of wiggle room whether you need it placed closer to the toilet bowl or a little farther away. It didn’t take long for us to find the best spot to work for both of us.
My TUSHY Experience
I came across TUSHY through their fun online marketing while looking for a bidet of my own. During this time, I was in postpartum, which if you’ve ever had the experience of having a baby, you know there’s bleeding after birth for a long time. It’s hard to feel completely clean using only toilet paper when you’re in that situation. I needed a daily butt shower to feel better and I didn’t have the TIME or ENERGY to get in the actual shower.
So I wanted to try the TUSHY out to see if it could help me feel more comfortable. My darling husband was on board to make his baby’s mama happy and immediately ordered it off of Amazon. (We love using our Amazon points to save money.)
I used the TUSHY bidet and instantly decided to never wipe with toilet paper again. How had I lived my life for so long without a bidet? I felt so much cleaner and fresh. There was a confidence boost, a joie de vivre. You could tell in my walk that I was feeling “it”.
My husband took notice in my new swagger but felt very hesitant to try it. He said, “This is for you. I’m not going to use it. It’s not for me.” However, curiosity got the best of him and he gave it a try! Guess who can’t live without a bidet?
I’d argue that bidets brought us closer together.
For the longest time, we only had the TUSHY bidet in one of our bathrooms. We loved using it so much that we hated to poop in our other bidet-less bathroom. We hated the idea of using toilet paper to clean our bottoms (yuck). After using water to clean your bottom, toilet paper isn’t enticing to use after a bowel movement since it doesn’t make you feel thoroughly cleaned.
Believe you me, we rectified that situation. We have bidets in both of our bathrooms now!
On a side note, my occupational therapist mind was in full gear thinking about how my patients could benefit from using bidet seat attachments in nursing homes, the community, and hospital. Using water to clean bottoms was so much easier than wiping with toilet paper 800 times in a row! I’m a huge advocate for health care facilities to install some type of bidet in every patient room.
It’s a quality of life issue!
TUSHY Durability
Over the past three years, we haven’t noticed any leaking from the TUSHY bidet. Some manufacturers recommend turning off the water supply to bidet attachments or handheld bidets to avoid water leaking all over your bathroom. Our bidet has stood the test of time. I’ll certainly update this blog post if that changes.
Another thing is that the controls still work perfectly. The knob and toggles work well without a hitch. Regularly cleaning with a damp cloth helps remove dirt or debris that could cause problems with the controls. We clean weekly for that purpose and for hygiene reasons, obviously.
I recommend a regular deep clean as well, which means removing the toilet seat and bidet attachment to get to all of the nooks and crannies. Feces disobeys the laws of physics (I’m kidding), so don’t be surprised to find poo in unexpected places.
Hemorrhoid Relief
Fellow hemorrhoid sufferers, TUSHY bidets may be a good tool for you! The cool water from the bidet alleviates the itching, burning, swelling . . . all the fun symptoms you feel with hemorrhoids.
For me personally, this is one of my favorite reasons to have a bidet on my toilet! When my hemorrhoid symptoms show up, I let the cool water spray away, gently pat dry with TP, and then apply some Preparation H to my butt.
I’m in such a better mood after taking care of my keister!
TUSHY Tip
If you haven’t used any type of bidet before, spray the palm of your hand with the bidet nozzle to feel what the water temperature and pressure will be like. Yours truly did not do this. The first time I sat down on the toilet and turned on the bidet, I screamed in surprise.
I don’t want this for you!
If you go your whole life wiping with toilet paper, it’s such a different experience to clean your bottom with water. It can take time to adjust. You may not love it as much as I do, and that’s okay! Maybe a bidet with a warm water option would feel better to you.
To help you find the best bidet option for you, I recommend asking your primary care provider to refer you to an occupational therapist. We’re the professionals who have your backside!
Family Reaction to TUSHY
When I told my family that we put a TUSHY bidet seat on our toilet, they were scoffing at us saying “oh, that’s so weird. I’ll never use it.” Guess what? Slowly but surely, all of my family members came over and tried it out. My family members felt so much better using water to clean their bottoms!
“We can’t believe we’ve been living our lives without bidets!”
I’ve converted my family into bidet believers! I’ve gifted my family with bidets and they love feeling so fresh and so clean. One of the most powerful moments for me was when my mom told me she’s had zero urinary tract infections and yeast infections after using her bidet. I love my mom so much, and I’m so incredibly happy that using a bidet improved her health!
