How to Use an Electric Portable Bidet

Traveling is so fun! Seeing new places, new people, new foods— oh, the experiences!

The only downfall to traveling is the inability to bring the comforts of your bathroom with you.

Personally, I love my bidet seat, but I can’t pack it in my bag to tag along on my road trip! What other alternatives are there to help me keep stay as fresh and clean as I do at home?

The answer is: electric portable bidets! Yes, electric portable bidets are an inexpensive, discreet option to take with you anytime you leave home. Watch the video or keep reading below to learn all about them!

electric portable bidets use water for cleaning

First, let’s talk about the benefits of cleaning your bottom with water.

Water is more gentle and effective at cleaning your butt after you poop compared to using toilet paper or wet wipes. It doesn’t cause any skin irritation, which helps keep your skin intact and infection free.

Using an electric portable bidet is like giving your bum a mini-shower while you sit on the toilet. After you use the bidet, pat your bottom dry with toilet paper or a wash cloth. You’ll definitely feel cleaner and more comfortable!

I recommend that everyone use water to clean their bottoms! I totally understand if using water instead of toilet paper is a little too different for you. You don’t have to change your ways. All I ask is that you keep an open mind to an alternative way to maintain your personal hygiene!

How Electric Portable Bidets Work

As a general rule, I always test the water spray on the palm of my hand before using it on my bottom! Please do this so you don’t scream in surprise and scare other people.

Remove the water tank and fill it with cool or lukewarm water. NOT hot or cold water, you masochist! Don’t burn your butt off!

Some electric portable bidets have the capability to attach to water bottles. This is really handy if water isn’t easily accessible to you, like if you’re camping.

Next you’ll attach the water tank to the part with the sprayer. Most electric portable bidets use a couple of batteries to power the water spray. (If you’re curious, the Gustyle electric portable bidet I use in the video used two AAA batteries.)

Remain seated on the toilet, spread your legs slightly apart, hold the sprayer in front of you or behind you to aim the sprayer towards your bottom. You will be holding the bidet so that the water tank is on top and the sprayer is down towards the toilet. If you have female anatomy, try to aim the water so it sprays front to back. This helps keep fecal bacteria from wandering to places we don’t want it to go!

The Gustyle bidet in the video offers a choice in high or low intensity water spray. The water will spray for one minute until automatically turning off. I find that one minute is plenty of time to thoroughly feel clean. If you need more time, then by all means spray away, honey!

how to care for an electric portable bidet

After using the bidet, rinse the sprayer nozzle with lukewarm water. You could also had some mild soap, like Dawn dish detergent, to fully clean the nozzle. Then wipe the bidet with a clean, dry cloth. You can choose to air dry the water tank or shove the cloth in it to wipe away excess water.

how much is an electric portable bidet

Electric portable bidets range between $25 to $100 dollars. That’s pretty affordable considering they help you feel fresh and clean while on the road. You won’t have the urge to poop then take a whole body shower right afterwards!

When trying to find the best bidet for your needs, take a look at customer reviews on the product. I find it really valuable to learn what other people thought about a particular bidet before purchasing it.

electric portable bidets are Easy to Carry

Electric portable bidets are very light and compact which makes it easy to take with you. I carried mine in my purse while at a conference and no one had a clue until I took it out to show it off to my friend (who WAS interested to see it, by the way!)

You can also carry bidets with you to work, school, or run errands. I noticed that when I travel in the U.S. that there’s hardly any bathrooms with a bidet. So in my mind, it’s better to come prepared then use toilet paper only to clean my bottom.

In my family, we all use bidets for personal hygiene. Even my 3-year-old expects to use the “squeezy bidet” every time she uses the toilet! She doesn’t like the feeling of using toilet paper to wipe after a bowel movement. And I don’t blame her! Personally, I don’t feel completely clean either!

So yes, electric portable bidets must come with us while traveling for everyone’s sake!

electric portable bidet tip

I’ve had people ask me if they can use electric portable bidets in the shower. Yes, you can IF they’re waterproof. Please double check to see if your bidet is waterproof before taking it in the shower with you!

Please don’t injure yourself on accident.

electric portable bidets help caregivers

If you’re helping take care of a family member or client, electric portable bidets help save your back from leaning over and wiping someone’s butt a hundred times!

Make sure to get the other person’s permission to use the bidet before you actually use it! Spray water from the bidet nozzle on the palm of their hand so they can know what to expect. Ask what water temperature they’d prefer on their bottom. You know, make the awkwardness of assisting someone else on the toilet a little more enjoyable!

While your family member or client is seated on the toilet, you can help them hold the bidet in place in front of from behind their back to get clean.

If you’re a caregiver taking care of someone who mostly stays in bed, you can use an electric portable bidet there, too! After your client uses the bed pan, help them place their feet on the bed surface with knees bent and feet hip width apart. Hold the bidet upside down with the water tank on the top and spray their bottom front to back (Up then down. Work with gravity, my friend!). Then gently pat their bottom dry with a clean cloth.

Using water instead of wet wipes and toilet paper will help prevent skin breakdown on your person’s bottom! This is so important because it will prevent skin and urinary tract infections!
