L-Shape and Corner Grab Bars

When you think of a grab bar, you might think of something that looks like the image on the right.

Long, straight, stainless steel grab bars are the most common type of grab bar, and for good reason: they help you stay safe in the bathroom while you’re moving in the shower and on the toilet.

They’re the seatbelt of the bathroom! Helpful for people of all stages and ages!

What if I told you that there are a couple of different grab bar types you should consider for your bathroom?

Everybody is just a little bit diverse in their needs and how they do things in the bathroom.

While you can’t go wrong with a straight grab bar, sometimes different-shaped grab bars can help you out more during your time in the bathroom!

In this blog post, we’re going to focus on two types of grab bar: L-shape and corner grab bars! Are you ready to check out these unique-shaped grab bars? Watch the video or keep reading below to learn more!

L-Shape Grab Bar

I love L-shape grab bars! I think they should be in every public restroom in the entire world!

This is because L-shape grab bars offer two different ways to grip the grab bar: horizontally or vertically.

When sitting on the toilet, you may feel more comfortable positioning your hand on the horizontal part of the grab bar compared to holding onto the vertical portion or visa versa.

The thing is the L-shape gives you the option to put your hand in the most comfortable grip and position for you!

Ponte Giulio offers L-shape grab bars that extend towards the right or the left, which makes it easy to customize for your bathroom at home!

I’d recommend placing L-shape grab bars next to your toilet and shower seat. They’ll help you with standing up and sitting down, adjusting your clothing, and showering.

In the video above, I installed the L-shape grab bar in my shower. I also demonstrate how to use it for standing and sitting.

L-shape grab bars are also available in stainless steel. Take a look at them in the Toilet Talk Store!

Corner Grab Bar

Corner grab bars are usually installed in the corner of the shower in order for you to prop your foot up to wash, exfoliate, or shave.

It helps with all of the hygiene and grooming tasks!

Corner grab bars eliminate the need for a shower stool, which frees up shower floor space for you to walk around. We want to avoid tripping on a bunch of clutter on the shower floor!

Although the corner grab bar is typically installed low to the floor, you can install it at different heights and places in your bathroom.

You can have the corner installed higher on the wall to grip on it when moving around the shower or bathtub. If you feel yourself reaching to grab hold onto something in the bathroom, look to see if there’s a corner where you could place the corner grab bar!

You can install it next to your toilet to hold on to while getting on and off the toilet or for people with male anatomy to hold onto for balance while standing and doing their duty!

Corner grab bars are perfect to consider installing in places around the home where you could use a little extra support: like stairways, garage entries, outdoor entries, bedrooms, or laundry rooms.

Vinyl Coating

The L-shape grab bar and corner grab bar have a vinyl coating cover over the steel core. Vinyl coating feels warm to the touch as opposed to the kind of cold, hard feeling that you have with stainless steel grab bars.

The vinyl coating also makes improves your grip by not allowing your hand to slide around. It’s kind of like sneakers on a gym floor.

Vinyl coated grab bars are wonderful for people who have a sensitivity to cold, like people who have peripheral neuropathy caused by diabetes, cancer treatments, or injuries. These grab bars will not make you feel painful sensations when you touch them!

These vinyl coated grab bars come in fifteen different colors, so if white grab bars aren’t your thing, Chicken Wing, then you can find a different color to match your bathroom aesthetic.

Conclusion

Installing L-shape grab bars and corner grab bars help people of all ages and abilities stay safe in the bathroom! Mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, young kids, all of your family and friends will feel confident while bathing and going to the bathroom!

Please share in the comments where you’d put an L-shape or corner grab bar in your home? For me, an L-shape grab bar next to my toilet will help me and my visitors out! I don’t mind helping Mom, but I do like setting things up so she can move around on her own with dignity in the bathroom!
