Some of us may not realize that we’re caregivers for our older family members. It somehow sneaks up on us. One day you’re changing the light bulbs in your grandma’s house and the next day you’re helping her in and out of the shower.

There’s never one defining day that makes you a caregiver. But it’s important that you ask yourself four important questions to help you decide if you’re able to provide the care that your family member needs to live safely and independently at home:

1) What can my family member do on their own?

2) What does my family member need help with at home?

3) Can I help my family member with that?

4) Do I want to help my family member with that?

I wrote a blog post, “How We Helped Granny Live at Home” for the Happy Healthy Caregiver about my experience helping my granny live at home. I answer those four questions and give some advice on what you can do for your unique situation. Check out the article HERE.
