Grab Bar Handles for the Bathroom
Hello, friend! Have you ever seen grab bars for the sink?
Most people haven’t!
Please watch the video below or keep reading to learn more about these unique-shaped grab bars!
Reasons to Install Grab Bar Handles
Grab bar handles installed at the sink help you slowly lower yourself to a sitting position and help you pull yourself into a standing position.
Sitting at the bathroom sink has many benefits. You conserve energy while putting on makeup, brushing teeth, washing your face, shaving, etc.
Saving energy helps you do all the things you need and want to do safely. It helps you think more clearly. You feel better and capable of taking care of yourself and your household!
Standing, even for short periods of time, can feel really exhausting to some people, especially those with chronic back pain or respiratory conditions.
Personal Experience
In my case when I was pregnant, I really would’ve appreciated these handle grab bars in front of my sink. Standing up for long periods of time while growing a human feels draining. If I had grab bar handles, I could’ve plopped my tush on a stool in front of the sink!
These grab bar handles would’ve also helped my grandmother. She enjoyed sitting at the bathroom sink so she could take her time putting on her make up, hair curlers, and White Diamonds fragrance.
You know, the important things!
I’ve worked with many people who use towel racks to steady themselves while sitting down and standing up in front of the sink. Please DO NOT do this! Towel racks aren’t designed to support you!
Installation Tips
You must install grab bar handles into studs or wood blocking. That way you can have a 220 lb loading capacity as you’re lowering yourself to sit down and pulling yourself to stand up.
In the video, you can see that I have the grab bar handles mounted with the open end of the handle facing towards the middle of the sink. You could also switch the handles so the open end of the handle faces away from the sink faucet.
I would position the open end of the handle facing away from the sink faucet for people who have a difficult time releasing their grip from the grab bar. I’m thinking specifically about stroke survivors or people who’ve had a traumatic brain injury.
Use your creativity to position the grab bar handles to your needs!
If you’d like additional help with positioning the grab bars, call up your friendly neighborhood occupational therapist to come on over to your house to give their recommendation on grab bar handle placement.
Vinyl Coating
Another thing I love about these grab bar handles is the vinyl coating.
The vinyl coating allows you to have good grip and keep your hand from sliding. It feels like sneakers on a gym floor. When you hold onto them, your hands ain’t going nowhere, baby!
The vinyl coating also feels warm to the touch compared to stainless steel grab bars, which typically feel cold.
These grab bars can feel more comfortable for people who have peripheral neuropathy or nerve damage from injuries or exposure to certain chemicals.
Details
The grab bar handles are 9 1/2 inches long, 4 inches tall, and stick out from the wall 5 1/2 inches.
Ponte Giulio offers these vinyl coated grab bar handles in up to fifteen different colors. If the color white isn’t your style, no worries! I bet you can find a color that matches your bathroom aesthetic!
Personally, I love how the white grab bar handles pop out from my dark indigo bathroom wall.
Other Places to Install Grab Bar Handles
Guess what? These grab bar handles can be installed in other places besides the sink!
Put them near the toilet or in the shower to keep you safe moving around slippery surfaces.
If you really want to get creative, you can put them in other places in your house. I’m thinking if you had a makeup vanity, woodworking shop, laundry room, garage entry.
You don’t have to stop at the bathroom is my point!
Conclusion
I hope you get a handle on standing up and sitting down at your bathroom sink! (Did you like that joke?)
