How to Fix Common Wiping Mistakes

As someone who helps people go to a bathroom for a living, I’ve seen way too many people wipe wrong with toilet paper!

And it’s no one’s fault if they’re wiping wrong with toilet paper! Unfortunately, they were taught how to wipe incorrectly and don’t know the problems that can come with it.

The good thing is I’m a healthcare professional who’s here to teach you what NOT to do! Stick around to read the article or watch the video below to learn why wiping wrong is bad and how to clean your booty better!

Welcome to my bathroom! My name is Maria Lindbergh and I’m an occupational therapist. I’ve helped so many people in nursing homes, the hospital, and the community take care of themselves on the toilet.

I collaborated with BidetKing.com, the online leader in bidet seats, to talk about your personal hygiene. It’s our goal to make sure you’re always good to go!

Common Wiping Mistakes

People tend to wipe too much and too hard with toilet paper to feel thoroughly clean. I mean, if I had a nickel for every time I saw someone wipe too much and too hard, I’d be on a sunny beach on my own private butt-shaped island somewhere.

The thing is you don’t want to wipe too hard and too much. Wiping hard creates microtears in your private parts that promotes bacteria to linger and grow. And this is bacteria is NOT good for you!

This bacteria causes infection on your delicate privates. That’s a trip to the doctor, my friends!

It’s also common to see people wipe back to front. This spreads bacteria from the anus and vagina to the urethra. When bacteria enters the urethra, it causes a urinary tract infection (UTI). UTIs take place in your ureters, bladder, or, heaven forbid, your kidneys!

Stop Wiping with Toilet Paper. Use a Bidet Seat.

Bidet seats, like the Alpha UX Pearl, spray water to gently and effectively clean your periurethral area and perirectal area. Using water from a bidet seat helps you avoid:

  1. wiping too much and too hard

  2. wiping back to front

This is how it works: If you have female anatomy, first use the feminine wash option to spray the periurethral area. Then use the rear wash to spray the perirectal area. This is the best way to keep UTI-causing bacteria away from the urethra.

Always spray front to back!

And if you have male anatomy, the rear wash will sufficiently clean your booty hole.

You can adjust the water intensity to gently and thoroughly clean you. Just FYI: you don’t need high intensity water pressure to get cleaned! A gentler water intensity will help avoid microtears from developing in your sensitive private areas.

Wipe Front to Back

Now, I know I could tell you to just gently wipe front to back with toilet paper. This is the easiest fix to correct your wiping mistakes and it will prevent you from unwanted infections.

But I want to level up your personal hygiene and experience as human being. Think about this analogy for a moment:

If you were to get mud on your hands and wipe it off with a paper towel, would you feel thoroughly cleaned? Probably not, because there’s mud residue on your skin.

Ugh, ick!

How would you feel after using water to clean the mud off? More than likely, you’re hands would feel thoroughly cleaned. The water would remove the residue off of your skin so you won’t have that nasty feeling left over.

That’s what bidet seats do! The water clears all of the residue and unwanted bacteria from your periurethral and perirectal areas. All without the wiping!

Air Drying Your Bottom

Actually, you can avoid wiping completely with a bidet seat like the Alpha UX Pearl. When you’re finished spraying your bottom, you can stay seated and use the warm air dryer function to dry your private areas.

I want to emphasize that it’s very important to thoroughly dry your delicate booty skin to avoid other types of unwanted infections. Please don’t pull up your pants and walk around with a wet butt! A funky smell will soon follow you.

You don’t want that in your life.

The other drying option is to gently pat dry your bottom with toilet paper or a booty only towel. To be totally transparent, I do this when I’m in a hurry and don’t have the luxury of time to air dry my rear. Just remember: gently pat dry only.

No wiping, okay?

At the end of the day, your takeaway should be this: Using bidet seats to spray water front to back will help keep unwanted bacteria from entering the urethra. Stop wiping your butt over and over and over! Take good care of yourself by using a bidet seat instead!
